sRGB piece-wise EOTF vs pure gamma

Yes, most file IO assumes piece-wise, hardware encoding / decoding, e.g., GPU, also assumes piece-wise.

Thank you for stating the objection that I had to pure 2.2 gamma in a single concise line. There’s one extra bit that’s of interest to Windows users : when HDR is active, Windows assumes the piecewise EOTF for all legacy SDR applications. It will do the following conversion operation:

sRGB_to_Linear(LegacyBackbuffer) * 80.0 * UserScaleFactor

The result is in scRGB with 709 gamut, gamma 1.0, and extended floating-point range.

Maybe you already knew but it’s good to put the information out there.
