ACES 2.0 Resolve OFX DRT - P3 D60

About to grade a feature using a Barco SP-4K projector with a DCI whitepoint ( x=0.314, y=0.351 ).

Using the ACES Transform OFX (V2.0) in Resolve, should I use the P3-D65 (D60 Simulation) setting? Or instead use the P3-D65 with a chromatic aberration added afterward? Or just bypass a P3 grade altogether and go with BT 1886?

Hi Craig, not sure what you mean by '“chromatic aberration”… Usually, this term is used for lens artefacts.

Anyhow, I would strongly suggests you don’t use any white point simulation, nor use the DCI whitepoint. If you want to keep your workflow simple and free of colour artefacts, use P3-D65 and use it natively with the projector. You may have to create a new TCGD in the projector if it’s not there.

That being said, grading with a laser projector can lead to metarism issues, so staying away from white point simulation will remove a pain point and will avoid confusing the issues.

There is a post about the subject of white point sim here: Choosing the ACES Output Transform for DLP-Based VFX Approval
