ACES and the ColorChecker - Part One

Doesn’t the hdri I have to be in aces Color space?

When looking at neutral patch levels, the colourspace is not relevant. Although an IDT can technically include an exposure offset, in practice no common ones do so.

I find your answer misleading. the whole point should be to know the assigned colorspaces of your sources. Otherwise you end up quickly with strange unwanted colors in your comp.

Sorry if my post was not emphatic enough about the fact that I was talking solely about the levels of neutral patches. Of course it is crucial when choosing an IDT to know the colour space of the source.

But when looking solely at exposure, [0.18, 0.18, 0.18] in ACES2065-1 is also [0.18, 0.18, 0.18] in any other linear scene-referred encoding (assuming it is white balanced, and the IDT includes the necessary chromatic adaptation). Unless, as I pointed out, an IDT with exposure offset in needed. But even then, the relative levels of mid grey and diffuse white will be unchanged.
