Ground truth vs. consensus, in re: colorimetric images

At the end of IDT meeting #1 I wanted to clarify that what we are aiming for is bringing cameras from multiple vendors all towards a common point, that common point being accurate scene colorimetry. (The “.vs consensus” in the subject line is to raise, and I hope reject, the idea that if multiple cameras were all “wrong the same way”, that this could become the target. This seems a bad idea to me.)

An advert for a “2D Spectral Imaging Colorimeter” made by gamma scientific showed up in my inbox today. Here’s a link to it. Am I mistaken, or is this basically a hardware implementation of the RICD? Is it possible to rent such a beast for a day? Perhaps some of you who have more recently been in academia or on the vendor side of metrology could comment on this device.
