Summary

The latest ACES Strategy meeting focused on defining long-term success metrics and evaluating Color Transformation Language (CTL). Key highlights include:

OpenImageIO & OpenEXR

There was a brief pre-agenda discussion Awareness was raised regarding an active discussion on how OpenImageIO handles ACES container flags (ST 2065-4). TSC members are encouraged to review the OIIO thread.

Defining ACES Success

The group explored what it should consider for success metrics, from “code commits” to roadmap milestones and usability. The discussion concluded that success should be defined by improved usability and how easily the industry can implement and use ACES without friction.

The Future of CTL

A deep dive into CTL and trying to understand issues around it being the architectural reference. While its usability was questioned, the group learned of significant new optimizations (16x speedup, Metal backend, unit testing, plugins and bindings) that could help update it into a more usable tool for development, an accessible tool for implementers and, potentially, more usable for end-users (if there are any).

Next Steps

The team is trying to formalize a draft “Project Plan” covering mission, vision and goals.
