I wanted to find out whether FLOAT2CV12 should actually be here?

Yes, that looks like a typo. Should be FLOAT2CV12(a) in both instances.
I’ll make sure it gets fixed.

@faed, the doc has been updated so that the encoding and decoding functions should now be using the 12-bit numbers.
