I was happy to find out that Resolve writes colorspace metadata intro a ProRes files depending on the ODT you use.
And that on MacOS the Quicktime Player X is “reading” this metadata and showing me the same result when
exporting files with the Rec.709 or sRGB ODT.
The VLC player also “sees” the colorspace metadata but is showing different results on the screen.

I went down the rabbit hole to find out more what this means and my question is still the same:

Is this all a bug or a feature?

I want to share my findings and I am happy to get feedback to understand the issue better.

At the same time I took this opportunity to test out new color bars for HDR that I created in Nuke in ACES.
